THE LOCAL ORGANISATION.

The Mayor informs us that the local organisation is now working effectively and' the ground is being well! covered along the lines laid down by the Minister for 'Health in the cvrcufl'ar published in another column. House to house visitation ha- been established, Mrs Kebbeill having undertaken to do one portion of the town andi Adjutant Sewell, of the Salvation .Army, and her staff are doing the other side. Oases requiring assistance are thus reported to the temporary hospital and the necessary attention is given. The hospital is now working smoothly. Sixteen cffl-es are being treated, one (having been • discharged cured to-day. The enthusiastic band of workers who hay© come forward have had an exceptionally busy time. The 'Mayor-and Mr B. R. Gardener have certainly had their hands full, while Mrs Greggan and Mrs Pink have borne a heavy Bifruen. Tt is .pleasing to note that a number of other residents have made real sacrifices to n,ssi«t. Mr and Mrs J. Edwards ar© doing splendid w6rk. having put everything else aside for the time being. Among other willing workers are Mrs Jacobs, Nurse Gilroy, -Mrs Wiki .MoDonald, Misses Hayes, E!Hie Ha'l 'and Barnes. -Mrs Jamieson joins the volunteers workers to-nisrht. The teachers of the school. Messrs Jones, Higgins. Connor njid/ RockeT, have toiled manfully at all sorts of work, and mention must' be made also of the iservices rendered by Mcv-srs H. Harvey and Crawford, ■who have joined the volunteer staff The Mivor states that there' is stilll room for more men and) women to act as reserve workers in order to give a rest to those who are now on duty.

One of the chief needs of the jhon.r is ■volunteer women to assist families who are helpless owing to every member being down. In this connection the Mayor expreses disappointment at the poorness of the response made to his appeal. It is.not desired that mothers who themselves are responsible for clrldren should come forward, but Mr Blenkhorn points out that that plenty of people with little responsibility and a good deail of time on their hands who coul'd quite easily come forward and assist in this most necessary work. So far those who have volunteered are in most caser* women who already have responsibilities and fliey certainly have set an example worthy of imitation.

Ladies who have promised beef tea and other dainties for stricken people are requested to leave same at the Borough office, which is the distributing centre for this department of the work.

Plenty of disinfectant in now available at the Borough Office, another supply having come to hanol. Tn this connection it is as well to point out that disinfection is now compulsory, arid householdens who Wave neglected to carry it out are liable to prosecution.

Mr W. H. Field, M.P., informed the Mayor this morning that he had been pulling Levin's claim for an inhalation chamber and the first available wouild be despatched.
