DEATH OK MR GREY PHILLIPS
Levin heard with much regret yesterday of the death of Mr Grey Phillips, the well-known interpreter and native agent, and one of the moai familiar figures en the town. Mr Phillips was a. victim of the prevailing epidemic. He was taken 13 last week with influenza and went to bed, but pneumonia supervened and: he passed away early yesterday morning despite 'all I'ihat devoted nursing aiul skilled advice could do. The late Mr Phillips was 45 years of age and was a eon of Mr G. W. Phillips, of Rawene, Hokianga. He settled in Levin sixteen years ago and was widely known on this coast for his knowledge of native affairs, his services being greatly availed of in connection with the Native Land Court. A kindly good nature and pleasant genial disposition brought him many friends and news of his death earned deep and sincere regret in .Levin yesterday. Mrs Phillips and her family of two sons and one daughter may be sure of very deep and heartfelt sympathy in "their sad and untimely loss of a devoted husband and, f:«>her. The funeral took place this afternoon and. was attended, by a number of representative townispfeople. The Thiriail service was impressively read by the Vicar, the Rev. W. IT. Grove, at the graveside".
