MONTHLY MEETING
The ordinary monthly meting of the Horowhenua. County Council was held at 'Levin on Saturday. Present —Crs. A. Murray (in the chair), F. J. Ryder, J. iR. Whyte, Cattey and S. A. Broadbelt. Apologies were received from Ors. Monk, MdLeavey andi Law. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Hutt County Council askfor the Council's share (£l6 12s Id) :the boundary aoount, together with the sum of £36 5s 7d as per statement previously sent. Referred to the Chairman with power to act. From Otaki .Town Board stating Commissioner Nicholson had been appointed as the Board's delegate on matters arising with (the Council.—ReceivFrom the anawatu County : Council stating that it was five months since the Council's contractor completed metalling on tlhe Shannon road and tlnaii the Council had compliedl wfith Horowhenua's by-laws. The Council also pointed out that since the road had been metalled the iroad had been under water several times, further, thJe 'Council was informed that flaxmillers and others had been carting metal over the road Since work was done by the Coun-
cil. Tlhe Enginer said probably the Mannwatu Council was right( andi he now had reason to believe other carts had done considerable damage. Thle road, however, appeared in better order tlhan a few weks back. From Mr« Norman Kirkcaldie asking permission to lay a three-inch pipe drain under the road Muhunoa East to carry overflow water from a ram to the old ford at the Ohau river.—^Granted subject to the rdlu rdlu dhi dlulu ted, the request being considered reasonable.
From the Estate of J. R>. MdDon&ld enclosing deed of indemnity executed by the trustees. If approved th'ey would he obliged if the seal was affixed. ■—Referred to the Council's solicitor, it being considered! the deed phould have been sent to him. From G. Renwick (Otaki) stating; a heifer had been impounded in the OT:»k1 pound by the Council's ranger. It had been sold for 335, leaving a deficiency of 15s, which he would be pleased to receive.—Amount to be paid. Firom the Mangahao Hydro-Electric Power League stating a big deputation would l wait on the Ministers on Thursday next relative 'to the scheme and asked the Council to appoint a. delegate. It was pointed out that Councillor Law was the Council's .representative on the League, but he was ill and m'ight be unable to go. It was decided that if lie could not go Mr Goldsmith be the delegate. , , ... The Clerk reported that owing to illness the ranger had been unable to put in his monthly report. RANGER'S DUTIES. It was agi'eedi to ask the Ranger to isue summonses against owners of d';aek givting trouble. _ It was resolved to instruct tlie ranger not to impoundi stock in the Wirokino riding between tftiie liours from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. from November 16. GENERAL. Or Ryder stated that through overlooking the dalte of the lime-stone conference at Palmerston he had not attended. Cr "Whyte, the other, delegate, stated he had attended, but tho conference was not a representative one. He gave a brief outline of the business done. It wais resolved that Crs. Broadbelt and Murray, together with the Engineer, be a committee to accept tenders for cutting a drain from Koputaroa stream under the terrace on Mr Eggmton'vs property. , ___ It was decided that the Waikawa wa-ter-race be left to the Crs. for the riding and to the Engineer; also thai':, the latter order the necessary timber. It was agreed to let th'e annual meeting lapse this month and to lioldi it on the ordinary meeting day in December. The settler= who petitioned the Council at last meeting for a small ©hare of wa+er from the Horo-n?hen"ua Supply readily found the money that I ®stimated it would cost and I am doing some preliininary work to enable- mo to giv© it bo them. Between ba<J weather and bad health I have been unable to do any thing with the Ivoput;iiroa drains this I month. I have now a few good men ! waiting in Shannon to be shown over the line as soon as the weather is siJ:tTokomaru Riding.—The roads in this riding are still passable, the main road from Shannon to i':he b:g mill is very rough but it does not seem to get much worse lately. The Foxton road the other day looked bettor than it did a month ago as all signs of the floodl have now disapeaTed. There is-no chance or doing any think to repair frhe main road a® there is not a team available. Everything at the north end is alright, it is reported to me.
