SHORTAGE OF POTATOES
Wellington, November 1. The N.Z. Farmers' Distwbutiiig Co., Ltd., reports: , Th'e potato market still -hare With prices remaining firm. Oajis (Gartonfi in particular) are still in short supply and: any good lines offering are snapped up quickly at high prices. Feed' ma£e at the moment is exceedingly scarce and high, prices are being realised for any lines offered. Ryegrass and cocksfoot are ; -tiltt selling in small lot® wTSJi firm rates ruling. Fowl whea)i is not over plentiful at . present with prices short and any offered is "readily snapped -up at high prices. Eggs are oiot 'over plentiful jtist at 'ihe moment with prices firm. Honey in bulk is also in short supply with priced-firm. < Cabbages are not over plentiful at the moment ivi.th prices showing an upward tendency. Oau/iirowers are also a bifi short in supply, and prices have accordingly advanced. Carrots are also advancing in price owing to supplies being a, bit short. Onions are not over plentiful with high ratev ruling. White turnips are now go/i'ng off a bit and price® have accordingly advanced. Lettuce are coming''forward in.good quantities and are realising satisfactory prices. French beans have not been over plentiful during the week' and prices have accordingly advanced l . Beetroot is not now quite so plentiful; wi|bh prices showing, a slight advance. Spring onions arc sti I''in good i upply with rates about normal. Parsnips are noi"now quite 60 plentiful with prices advanced."Swedes are il:i!l in fair supply and realising satisfactory prices. Leeks are still fairly plenti' ful: Green peas are coming forward iu small lots and realising good prices. Rhubarb is /still in good supply with prices aboufc normal. Asparagus is at the moment on the market tii small lots aijd realising good prices. Cucumbers are coming forward! ini small lots with good prices. Apples (dessert) are on the market in small quantities aud where good' are realising satisfactory prices. Cooking • apples arc now in .short supply with prices rfinn. Dessert, pears are in short supply and bringing, high prices. Gooseberries have been received during the week in email Tots and) are selling at very fair prices.
