In spite of.the boisefcrous weatker a large audience greeted -the performers «t the Weraroa Boletad benefit' ooncert held last night in the Sdboolroom. The programme was an excellent one and was much enjoyed, encores - being repeatedly demanded. The prograimme was as follows: -Irostrumental duet, Mrs Nation and Mr Haslam; song, Mr Mobtersliead: (encored); song, Mrs Hunt (encored) ; violin solo, Air Haslam; recitation, Mr F. James; song, Mr Haslam (encored); song, Miss iMcEwan (encored) ; song, Mr J. James (encored); whittling solo, Mr F. James (encored) ; ductj Messrs Mottereliead and James (encored). The performers in tlhe dia* : logue acquitted * themselves very well and caused plenty of amusement, particularly Mi's. Williams as the retired nurse. The dialogue "A Quarrel," by Miss and Master Poad wasi very well done -and evoked much applause. At the end" of the concert Mr Hoe warmly thanked the audience for tlheir attendance, Mrs Wood for the loan of jher piano, iand' Mi's Standen for her kindness in playing for the danceß. ! He also stated that £40 was already in th© Bank for the cause "tSU'ey were working for, this amount having been collected chiefly by-Mrs Greggan. Miss Manning, of Shannon, had kindly collected £6 JJls and Mr Fariand had given -a. benefit, while Mr H. Hoot has some pounds Mi lmnd. Two benefits were also anticipated from two local picture theatres, the whole of the proceeds going to the fund 6, arid there was a pfomise tan two Levin -assemblies and a. possibihty of a benefit from Ohau. He mentioned that Mr Fariand's benefit W°uld be given on October 31, and In coniokf>K)n thanked the "Chronicle" for donating the tickets and advertising for tlhe concert.. . . Tlie next Weraroa concert wfll tsuce place in a month's time and will be devoted to the Church.fund. It will' close tho season and take the form or plain and fancy dress ball. .
