The monthly meeting'of the'Horojvhenua County- Council was held on I Saturday. Present—Or® 3Mob& (in the* chair), Ryder, Broadbelt, Catley, Bryant, McLeavey, Murray, Law and Why to." Accounts'amounting ifco J01143~4s 3d ivere passed for payment. The ranger (Mr G. Watson) reported that the main roads were free of stoek. Four informations were laid; Mrs H. Drake, Waikawa.drew: attention to the. bad, state of the Waikawa beach road from the first sandhill to iker residence. The dangerous 'river and sand cliff should be -fenced and great difficulty was experienced in getting wool clips out.—'Left to the members for riding to report. The Commissioner of Crown 'Lands wrote granting permission to the Council to occupy th© Educational! Reserve at Levin from year, to year at £2 per annum.—The Chairman .explainedi .that the reserve needed fencing audi was to be used for the Council's horses. The Land Board, while not agreeing ,; to I eompensation had agreed to the loading I of the land with the improvements at 1 the expiry of the Council s lease.—This , was agreed to. ' ' I The Department of Agriculture announced that the slaughtering premises of Jas. Lemmon (Levin) were m- & sa- , tisfactory condition andi permission wo- , uld be granted for a license.—Refeeived. i Messrs Wylie, Gorrie and Marryat waited on the Council and requested i an extension of the Horowhenua water race district at <Jhau.—Request granted. - ■ On th'e motion of Crs Law- and. Whyrte it was decided 1 that the Manawatu County Council be requested to at once repair the piece of the County road between Shannon Borough 'boundary and the Manawatu bridge as its present condition toe been brought] about bv their metal carts working in all weathers. The question of'toll-gates will be considered at next meeting irrespective of the absence of any Councillor. _' ENGINEER'S REPORT. The Engineer reported: Wirokino Riding: Little/ is' doing in this riding at present but the 'usual maintenance. I graded, formed up and blinded the sand road leadingto the Total®, Station at Wirokino. • The station owners found the houses and we made a very fair road of it; they aire-now rolling it and sowing it with grass seed; it will he ready for metal next. year, il propose getting all the roadis in this riding put in-order in their rturn, df..this -system is a suooeiss I hope to, by and by extend it to all the ridings of the County. I have heldi. over the formation of the short piece of road at Piako 'for a '/time for financial reasons and I may say, the same thing about the fencing of the same road. . .? , . Tokomaru riding: Nothing is doing in the riding hut' maintenance but: something will have to be undertaken to keep the main road jiaßsable .between iMiranui Flaxmill anq the township of Shannon'at once as it is getting very bed.
