, ■ -/ London, October 16. ' Sir Douglas Hiaig reports (4 a.m.) The Allied forces under the King of the Belgians continued their attack. The 'Belgians reached the approaches to Wynendiael Wood and Thourout. The French reached the outskirts of Lichterveldt and further south deepite lively resistance they pushed beyond. Routers to liichtervelde railway.
Southward of the CanaJl the Belgians captured Lendelede. The Second British Army reached Lediegihem, captured Gulleghem and Heule and reached the outskirts of Courtraii. They occupied Menin and Wervicq where we gained a footing on the riglht bank of the Lys. Since the 14th the Allies have prisonered 12,000 and oaptuired over a hundred guns. A Belgian communique states: The FraJico-fieil'gians .continued) their advanced! several kilometre); northwards of the Handzaeme-'Cortemarke railway.
. In the centre the French" carried the whole of the Hooglede plateau and captured Gits and Citeberg. ■ French cavalry crossed tlhe RoulersTihourout road and advanced towards Lichtervelde.
On the right the Belgians, cooperating with the British operating further south captured. Wbrokerlioek and Erendelize, reached the railway from Courtrai to Ingemunster. Over 7000 prisoners have been counted and eighty guns. The Belgians captured a complete regimental staff. A French communique says: On the Aisne we advanced iin the region of Arsonville. We skirt the south' rn bank of the Serre as far as Pouiffiy-sui'-Serre wliidh is in our hands. We progressed northwest of Wa.rclvaes, prisonering 400. Further eaft we captured La Selve and Nizyjle-Oomte. Westward of Grand Pre we holdi the Vouziers-Grand Pre road. In thiis region we prisonered an additional 400. An Ameirioani communique states: We continued our attacks <*a both sides of the Meuse srttibEornly reeisted by tho reinforced enemy. Eastward of the Meuse the Franco-Americans gained ground!. Westward of the river the fighting violently increased. We gained substantially including Hill' 299 which tfinmce changed hands.
