Domain Board

A meeting of the Horowhenua 'Lake Domain Board was held last evening. Present—Messrs H. B. France, K. Aitken, Hanita Henare and A. Deinpsey. In the absence of the Mayor, Mr France presided. THE FINANCES. The Clerk (Mr Gardener) madle a statement regarding the finances. He said that about two months ago an appeal ihad been made for funds by circular. Eighty circulars were sent " out and in response a sum of £8 7s had been received. A previouis list had been issued and £22 7s promised, of which £16 6s had been paid' in, making a total of £22 13s and £6 Is still to be paid, a grand total of £30 14s promised and paid. There is about £12 stiill standing to the Domain account. The boatshed contract let amounts to £48, and with the work of filling, etc., the sum re quired will be 'less than £60 independent of the contract of £48 in connection with the re-build-ing of tile boatshed. The Board hap spent some £90 in improvements during the past year. ■ <Memben» expressed the opinion tliati something should be done to raise fund/» to carry out improvements either by a personal canvass or by .some other means, but. the matter was deferred in the meantime.

LAKE IMPROVEMENT'S. The. Olerk reported on behalf of tlie Mayor, who was unavoidably absent, t'hlat more filling work would be required at the boatslicd site at the Lake. Some of the formation had subsided; and about 20 loads of material would be required to bring it up tfco the proper level. Mr France agreed that the present filling was too low and I 'required raising. The Clerk pointed out that if anything wais to be done it should he taken in hand before the boatr-lied> contract was started.

Mr Aitken said a visit of inspection would he the most satisfactory thing to do in the circumstances and the Board would know what was exactly required. This suggestion was agreed, to andl it was decided to make the inspection tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at 3 o'clock. RAINBOW TROUT. Thie Chairman referred to the necessity of stocking the Lake with yearling rainbow trout and moved that the Acclimatisation Society be written to and asked to place some Tainbow trout iri the Lake as recommended by Mr Ay son (the-Government expert). The motion was snportedl by Mr Dempsey and carried.
