GORED BY A BULL
SHOCKING OCCURRENCE AT THOBN3DON. Mr William Ward, a partner in tlie firm of Messra J. O 'Brien and Co., carriers, Victoria,street, vs&s fatally gored by a boll at the Th.or D.don Bailway Station stockyard shortly before 8"o'c1ock on Friday morning. The bull, a prize Holstein, belonging to Mr Lovelock, arrived by the train, from the Manawatu district on Friday night-consigned to Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and waa to have been shipped to the Bluff by Messrs O'Brien and Co. by the Westralia. Mr Ward, who was formerly, a farmer, and was thoroughly accustomed to handling stock, intended to see to the transfer of the animal from the railway truck, and was about to feed it in the stockyard when the animal suddenly attacked him, and gored him severely in the ithigh and other parts of the body. Some railway hands soon camo to his assistance and removed Mm from the stockyard. Drs Clay and Henry were summoned, and attended to the injured man, but he died in about three-quarters of an hour.
Mr Ward, who was 58 years of age, and leaves a widow and three children was weir known and highly respected in' business circles in Wellington, and indeed throughout the Dominion. -
