jNever use "water from a stone voir for cooking purposes. Never allow fresli. meat to remain 111 paper: it absorbs the juice. A dish, of «old water in the oven will prevent cake from burning. To remove the smell of fresh paint put a pail of cold water in the room and change it every three hours. Salt will remove the stain from silver caused by egg when applied dry with a soft cloth.
To destroy flies boil some quassia, chips in a litle water, sweeten, with molasses and place in saucers—destructive to flies but not to children. To revive and help potted plants that are drooping place a teaspoonful of ammonia in three parts of water and water the plants thoroughly with this mixture. To clean white woodwork and cement in kitchen or bathroom use baking soda freely instead of soap. It makes it beautifully clean and does not take the gloss off, as soap would. Beeswax and salt will make flatirons as clean and smooth as glass. Tie a lump of wax in a rag, and when irons are hot rub them vfith the wax rag, then scour with paper or rag sprinkled with salt. a
The disagreeable smell of onions, which clings to pots and pans so stubbornly can quickly be removed by washing and drying the pans, scouring with common salt and plaeing on the stove until the salt is brown. Shako often, then wash the pan as usual. To dry clean woollen garments place each-one in a wash boiler the bottom of which has been thickly covered -nith flour. Cover the garment with flour, then put the cover on boiler. Let it stand in an even heat on the back of range for three or four hours. Take out as soon as removed from range, so that it will not Bteam, and shake thoroughly.
