New Business Premises.
FOR K. AITKEX AMD \V. L. LIAMS. Oxford street has certainly received an important addition to its businers premises in the completion of the new building •erected to the order of Mr Ken. Aifcken by (Mr ! 0. Bell on the site of the recent fire between Broome's fetor© and Williams' refresninent rooms. Two .splendidly-appointed shops in the front and a large well-lighted' room at the rear are contained in the new structure, which is fitted with the most up- , , to-date appointments with neatness an finish. Mr Aitken's fondt ness for originality is in evidence in the f striking colour scheme—if black and t 'whit© can be called, colours, ttoe draui ght-board design being carried out in . the tileis under the shop windows, and . over the" exterior of the 'building genii orally the two extremes alternate. i In the elTiop which Mr Aitken himself i now occupies lie has ample room to dis-. • play liis varied stock of books, iwaga- ■ zines, general stationery, fancy goods, ; etc. The large plate glass window in the front gives scope for special dieplays, while at the side of the sbopi fia--1 cing the entrance to the <larg eroom at • the rear is a window specially designed by Mr Aitken for featuring literatare and postcards. Booklovers who like . to ®o carefully over the latest books - before buying will -find it much imore , , ])Wsan.t to be a little off the main stream of traffic than to be jostled by passers-by. Altogether Mr Aitiken should feel well satisfied with liis new venture. i Mr W. I/. Williams, watcjhmaiker and jeweller, lias taken the other slhiop in the new building and is already installed there. The large window frontage .gives him an opportunity off displaying ■ his stock of watches, clocks, jewellery, etc., which has ibeen considerably augmented! by the opportune arrival of a large consignment of the latest goods in his line. The interior of the shop is also decidely convenient, riot the least important ' addition being the counter show cases wfliioli -will assist in the better display of the jewellery. Mr Williams has had the large side window fitted up as a watchmaking where all the repair work will be executed in full view "of the public. T.h(e jewellery workroom at the rear of the shon is also well appointed audi altogether' a very complete establishment has been fitted; out for Mr Williams' ■business. _ Tn the large well-lit and nicely finished room at tihe back of -the shops Mr Aitken supplies a long-felt want in a. place for small meetings, semi-private ■ send-offs and kindred 'gatherings. jPor the presents however, he intends to make a display of Chats. Begg and Co.'s I pianos and organs, the agency of which , !lie has secured.,. The room, with its " ■ panelled walls, casement windows and 1 general air of me bungalow (style should be well suited for the pur]x>so, and -it . has an' entrance from tlte main street between the two front shops. , 1
