Palmerston Hospital Board

A special meeting of the Palmereton Hospital Board was hold this week, Sir James Wilson presiding, to oonpider tenders for the proposed new buildings. The throe Horowhenua representatives (Messrs S. A. Broacibelt, E. ilva.w, and Frank Penn) were present for tha first time l . (''ive tenders wore received for the I' proposed works. After due consideration had been given to tlhese and, Mr Cricliton, the architect, had submitted his estimates, it was resolved to accept one of the tenders provided) that arrangements could be made with the Government for a considerable increase in the loan from tlhe Public Trustee for the purpose. The matter of making the necessary financial arrangements was left in the hands the Chairman and Mr J. A. ;Naslb, while Mr Nash was deputed to interview tihie Minister for Public Health on tho matter. Mr E. Law mentioned, the matter of collecting patients' fees, and suggested that committees be set np in each centro in the district _to co-operate with members of the Board with the object of collecting the fees wherever possible. The Chairman said, that the Board had already adopted a system, whereby members of the Board were supplied with lists of fees due, and they assisted in iili© collection. The fees were comings in very well indeed. Mr J. A. Nash strongly objected to any persons other than members of the Board being allowed to act in this mat. ter. It would: never do at all. TVlr Broadbelt suggested that the Board members should consult with others in Uireir own districts in the matter of the collection of fees. JNb further action was taken. The matter of medical supervision at the hospital waj- discussed briefly in committee, as the result of a suggestion thait a fourth year medical student be appointed to assist at the hospital.
