GREAT FREiXGH SUCCESSES. Received this day, 11.10 a.m. London, September 6. A French communique reports: During the day the French continued! to pursue the retreating enemy and by evening on the Canal du Nord-Ve=le front we made important advances despite lbeail resistance. We hold Falvy and Offoy on the north bank of the Somme Canal. To the south our lines aproaeh the Ham road between Le Plessis, Patte d'Ofise arid Berlancourt. Sblitlicnpt of the " latter our front pauses through the outskirts of Guivry, Caill&uel, Crepigny, north of the forest of Dampoourt, the northern outskirts of Abbecourt. On the whole Ailette front the enemy, exhausted by hard fighting, since August 20th, to-dlay began to give ground. Our units pursuing the German rearguards rapidly progressed north of the Ailette. Pierremande and Autreville are in ottr handp as well as the greater pari of the low forest of Coucy. Further east we occupy Folembray, and advanced a kilometre south of Frisnes. On the right our front passed .east of Landrioourt. j South of the Ailette we hold the line Neu vil le-sur-MaTgival, Vregny and tihe j western slopes of Conde fort. Jf Over thirty villages were recaptufred to-day on this part of the front. iNorth -of "the Vesle we border the Aisne between Oonde and Viell. Eastwards the line passes north of Dhilizel to Burhouval and over the Beauregard plateau. Airmen were prominent in the battle, flying at their lowest and machine-gun-ning retreating troope, transport and bivouacs- Thousands of rounds were fired audi six tons of bombs were dropped on stations causing thie utmost confitsion. Sir Douglas Haig reports: On the southern part of,out 'baittlefront both northward and southward ot Peronno- we are advancing, driving in the enemy's rearguards and _ a pproaching the high ground on the Athies-Nurlu front.
