The subject treated at the Industrial History class of the Workers' Educational Association on Wednesday night was primitive communities. The lecturer, Mr Henderson, traced the development of society throjigh its three stages, the Hunting, the Pastoral, and the Agricultural. The great importnee of weapons and tools as showing the industrial advance of man anlso led to the further classification: The Stone Age, the Bronze Age, the Iron Age. The leclurer then dealt with early inventions, the discovery of fire and demi-go<ls. He said Britain was peopled about 1401) B.C. by a short people, avlio were called Iberians. These'people lived by hunting, fishing and keeping flocks and herds. They had corn, including wheat, barley and millet, and many of our vege-: fables and fruits, hut none of our root crops. They were largely dispossessed by the invasions of Celts, who introduced bronze tools and 'weapons. The Celts were eventually conquered by the Romans. • ■ Comparisons were drawn with the Maoris who possessed some unusual -distinguishing characterisl " An interesting discussion followed whiclf lasted till well after TO o'clock".
