American Sock-Song Contest
To stimulate its readers to '' knit, knit, knit," .the New York "Sun" has started a sock-song competition. Three prizes each week are awarded (in wool) for tho three beet verses, whether written by man, woman or child. We reprint the following samples:— FIRST PRIZE. Mrs Peter B. Wyckoff, Mendham, N.J. I am knitting a sock for my boy tonight. My boy who has gone to France to fight. And my thoughts go back to the nursery dim When I knitted the first weo eock for him. White was the wool which I used that day, But I'm prouder far of the thread of grey, As I weave each mesh with tendereet caro For the feet that manhood's burden bear; For the men that have gone in. jubilant youth To battle for honour, for home, and truth.
