Received tliis day, 10.40 a.m. London, July 2(>. Sir Douglas Haig reports : The enemy attacked four posts south of Meteren after heavy artillery and trench mortar prepa ration and were repulsed suffering 'many casualties. The aviation report states : Towards evening; on July 24 the sky cleared, permitting air fight ing. Twenty four tons of bombs were dropped at night time on railways m the Valenciennes sa lient, Courtrai add . Armentieres. Various billets and two trains were hit. Aeroplanes fired thousands ot machine gun rounds at targets, including active anti aircraft guns, searchlights and transport. A French cotaamunique says: Fighting on the Ourcq front continues. We have occupied Oulchy la Ville north of the river. The Franco Germans on the south advanced three kilometres ;it. certain points despite the sever eat resistance, especially in the Dormans region. We captured Hill 141 southeast of Armentieres, and crossed the Manteuil stream. Further south we captured the village of Coincy and the bulk of Toumcllo wood. We made progress at Waiely pud the Forest of Fere as far as the general line between lieu vardes —Le Channel. ,9 mvance continued favourably m the Buz forest and north of Dormans.
