Professor Hunter.
(Contributed.) The public of Levin have an opportunity to-night of hearing one of the most, remarkable and forceful personalities in the Dominion. This is Professor T. A. Hunter, who will inaugurate a branch of the Workers' Educational Association in this district . He'is one who by his wide and accurate scientific knowledge, his lofty ideals and impatience of pretension and humbug makes a strong impression on all who meet him. A clear thinker, lie quickly dispels the cobwebs of prejudice and convention from the brains of all who are worth winning. A fearless patriot, he has spoken and written so trenchantly about departmental incapacity and national degeneracy as to make enemies in high places. A man of profound sympathy with his fellows, _he lias aroused hostile criticism in Wellington by forgetting his high estate and extending a friendly hand to the toilers of the capital city. The students of Victoria. College idolise him as an excellent teacher, a first-class sport and the .best of good fellows. Some 12 or 14 years ago he represented Otago in Rugby and five or six years back he was asked by the Ts T .Z. Cricket. Association to go to Australia and try to remove the deadlock which existed between the two countries in that branch of sport. In tills he was completely successful. The Professor is a 'man of extraordinary energy and an indomitable worker. In addition to his very exacting duties as Professor of Mental Science he is tutor in Economics and Psychology to tlie Wellington Branch of theW.E.A. and member of the Advisory Board .and of several committees connected with the University. He still finds Tor makes time to ™ret>are powerful papers and pamphlets on Education. He has given addresses on this subject recently in Wellington, Wanganui and Master ton, and has been recognised throughout his term at Victoria College as one of the most advan ced and enlightened exponents of this subject in the country. It was the privilege of the writer of these lines to attend Professor Hunter's lectures in Mental SciI ence and he must confess Hi at his methods of thought were revoluj tionised under his powerful tui- ! tion. • Like all who understand the subject, the Professor is convinced that the future of New j Zealand is going to be made or ' marred by Education. He is keenI ly alive to the defects- of our pres- ' ent. system, the niggardly doles ' grudgingly set apart for school buildings and equipment, and the , poor material attracted to our teaselling service by the salaries paid, j Professor Hunter lectures at the ' Century Hall at 8 o'clock to-night upon the aims of the Workers' Educational Association. His "Worship the Mayor will preside and a general invitation is given . to the public to be present.
