Sir Douglas Haig reports that the .Australians advanced their line slightly on a front of 3000 yards astride the Sonune, capturing prisoners. Scottish troops successfully raided southward of La Basseo Canal. Australians entered enemy trenches eastward of Hazebrouck. Hence they expect the coming blow to be on a much more restricted front. Italian Daredevils S()SIK AMAZING FEATS. Received this day. 10.30 a.m. London, July 8. The Italian Arditi, or "Daredevils," performed some astounding feats of agility in the closing phases of the Piavc battle. They adopted a novel method of approaching and silencing a nest of machine-guns which were behind barbwire. Carrying long vaulting poles, the Arditi made a mighty rush find jumped the obstacles. Landing in the rear of the bewildered Austrian gunners, they drove long daggers into tlieir backs. One of the Arditi alone stampeded eight Austrian? into the Italian lines- under the menace of an uplifted hand-bomb. One Bersaglieri company captured a battery of six 4-iueh field mortars. - Another, preceded by Arditi armed Avith flame-throwers, stormed a factory in the face of forty machine-guns, blew up a munition depot and prisonered an entire Austrian command.

Several hundreds of self-styled Bolsheviks in Glasgow created disorderly scenes, demanding the release of Maclean, sentenced to five years for inciting Socialists. The Bolsheviks liekl up the tralms and attacked the drivers and conductors. The police quelled the disturbance.
