McLeavey '(< Huiu), C. Nees and J. 11. Andrew (Manakau), S. A. Broadbeh (Kopularoa), Rev. Pelrie, L. St. vjeorifc, F. Penn (O.taki), G. 1». Catley (Te Horo), Tatham, Fraser (Waikanae), W. T. Howell (Parapalaumu), J. G. Smith (l'aekakariki) and F. P. Walkley (secretary). Leave of absence was granted to Mrs Gibson and Messrs C. C. Higginson and I*. Maclean. A discussion took, place on obtaining work for discharged soldiers. The secretary, in answer to a question, said so far there had been little result from the advertising. It'was a very difficult matter to deal with the men, who rarely came to his office and frequently failed to reply to letters. A list of employers was kept at the office and any man desiring work could sec it, but it was impossible to send a full list to every man. The Wellington War Relief Society wrote asking if the County Patriotic Society was now in sufficient funds to give assistance to returned soldiers, one of whom had applied to them for a grant. The Secretary replied that, the County Fund was not yet sufficiently strong to take over such cases. Mr Andrew again drew attention to the position of' the County Fund and asked how they could expeet to raise funds- when so many other do'mands were before the public. He mentioned the copper trail and the Church Army efforts as recent instances. The County Fund did not seem to be very popular with many people. The -line had to be drawn somewhere between these funds and their fund. The Chairman said he was sure the' County Fund was becoming more popular and that the prejudice was being dispelled. On Mr Goldsmith's suggestion it was decided to place another +500 with the Public Trust office. The Paelcakariki Society forwarded c-£29 15s with a list' of donors of amounts varying from Is to £•">. Mr Andrew enquired whether .ill the subscribers to this sum would become members of the County Association, and it was pointed out that the rules allowed that any member of a Society contributing £25 became eligible to membership in the County Association. The Levin Patriotic Socielty forwarded £2fj, being its annual donation.
