Received this day, 11.40 a.m. London, July Sir Douglas Ilaig reports: After a, heavy bombardment the enemy on the night of July 2 attacked and recaptured the greater part of the ground taken by us in a minor operation on tlie evening of June -30. We carried out successful raids in the neighbourhood of Boyelles, Moyenne ville and Merris. A French communique reports: Between the Oise and the. Aisnc we repulsed two raids east of Vingre. We captured the village of St. Pierre Aigle, south of tlie Aisne. A German counter-attack upon the positions in tlie region of Vaux, west of Chateau Thierry, captured by the Americans, completely failed and fresh prisoners remained in our hands. An American communique says —We stormed the village of Yaux, La Roche woods and lite neighbouring . woods in co-opera-tion with the French, who advanced their line on Hill 204 . We advanced our positions a thousands yards on a 1-1 mile front. The enemy's losses in killed and wounded were heavy. His regiment holding the sector resisted obstinately and was practically -annihilated. Our losses were relatively light. The German counter- attack was entirely repulsed.
