Bank Of New Zealand.
Continued from page 3). | i will therefore be as last year, I 237,500; £G5,000 of the amount I remaining it was proposed to pla- ' ce to the lie serve Fund, and to carry forward th.e balance of £145,702. Kates and taxes during the year amounted to £346,- | 384, an increase of £148,333 on , the amount paid last year. The ! figures of tlie Bank's business ! were rapidly increasing. The ag- ' gregate of its assets for this balance sheet was £40,838,682 as compared with £38,280,177 at March 31, 1917. "I refer to this development with mucli_ satisfaction. To some' extent it is in conunder which we are at present working; but. I am persuaded I that, in no small measure, it is 1 the result of the business policy which the Bank has consistently i followed for many years in enco- : uraging the development of the ! country by assisting sound enterprise in every practicable direction. An impression has gained ground in some quarters that the ! Bank is the Bank of the big man, ' and that dmall accounts are not valued by us. Nothing could be further from the triith. The Bank is by no means exclusive. It ' ' helps the small man as well as the i ! big man. In proof of this I may j : say that 70 per cent of our over- ,1 drawn accounts at March 31 last ( were the accounts o£ small men having overdrafts of ,£SOO or leas, i 11 per cent represented overdrafts between £500 and £1000, and on- • ly 19 per cent were in excess of I £1000."
