Says the "Wairarapa "Age": —The Farmers' Union "Advocate" strongly protests against the workers of NewZealand linking up with those of Australia. It urges that the object is to create a huge political organisation. The "Advocate" is probably correct in its assumption. But', is it not aware that the farmers of Now Zealand are combining in a huge federation, and that a representative is at present in Australia endeavouring to link up with the Commonwealth? There is an indication that an effort is being made to bring Australasia under the control of two great monopolies, i.e.,, the farming monopoly and the trades union monopoly. Between the two, the rest of the community will have to make a selection. The middle party will be able to "turn the political scale against either. The annual production of wheat, rye and barley in Ukrainia is fifteen million quintals (14,732,143 tons), or one-third of the total Russian output. The sugar beet production of Ukrania is five-sixths of that of all Bussia. No less than 700,000 quintals of tobacco are grown there every year. ThoTe are 30,000,000 head of cattle there, Mid sheep, goats, pigs and poultry are very numerous. Ukrainia has, in fact, about 50 per cent, of Russia's total live stock; 60 per per cent, of the iron turned out in Bussia comes from "Ukrainia, and this new republic furnishes one-sixth of the world's production of manganese. All the mercury found in Russia is produced in Ukrainia ,and 75 per cent, of Russia's coal is mined there.
