America Will Send Millions
WIL1) GERMAN SCHEME
Received this day 9.15 a.m. • New York, June 14. Mr Baker, Secretary for War, in a speech at West Point, said shortly it would be reasonable to expect America's forces in France to exceed a million men. The Government would continue to send men till there was no doubt of the outcome of the struggle. General March, Chief of Staff, says: "America is calmly determined to send men until we win the war whatever the number required. If millions are needed we will send them. The U-boat menace will not alter our policy one iota."
Mr Gerard, ex-ambassador to Germany, said: "Before I left Berlin I learned Germany's aim was to seize the British Navy, man with Germans, conie to the United States and force America to pay the cost of the war. Every German businessman knows defeat means financial ruin and 'ft now realising the hopelessness of securing an indemnity."
