Red Cross Shop.

Somewhat unexpectedly last Friday afternoon someone had to lie found, to take charge of the Red Cross Shop for the usual Saturday's business, and Mrs Howard Jones and Mrs Yickers agreed to fill the gap, although they had. not had an opportunity of arranging for supplies. However, an energetic canvass by Mr Jones on Friday night resulted in surprisingly good supplies being cured and the healthy sum of £11 2s 4d resulted from the day's efforts. During the' afternoon Mrs J. O'Donohue relieved Mi's Vickers and with Mrs Jones was kept busy well into the evening. Mr Jones proved quite an expert at devising competitions for extracting coin, and also displayed considerable > show-card talent to aid. the sales. The usual dinner competition was decided on the stopping somewhere, between 8 and y p.m. of a clock put out of gear for the occasion by Mr W. L. Williams, and three competitors picked on the correct ininute, th® draw-off falling to Miss _ Goldsmith. Another competition for a big black rooster who has previously figured at the l shop fell to Mrs E. E. Henderson. The day a takiiif were surprisingly good considering the little time at the disposal of the ladies in charge for working up, and when next they have control, some more records will broken.
