The Pola Exploit.
A BRILLIANT FEAT
Received this dia.y 9.5 a.m. Rome, May 22. Official: A participator in the raid on Pola harbour relates that the operation was carried out m the early hours of the morning. The weather was windy. A torpedoer containing Lt.-Command-der Pellegrini and his gallant crew fired two torpedoes 58 minutes after leaving the supporting convoy which was composed of armed motor -launches. When the Austrians realised the presence of the torpedo boat a terrific fire broke out during which Pellegrini signalled: "I have torpedoed a ship and my ship has been destroyed. All help is useless. A squadron of chasing" sea-planes broke down the attempted enemy aerial attack against our convoy. • The account states_ that a hostile vessel was indubitably struck and sunit or so damaged that she will be out of action for a considerable time. All members of the Italian torpedoing party were taken prisoners.
