Admiralty records show that the seven British submarines which were destroyed to prevent capture by the / Germans did useful service, including the destruction of three German cruisers and a number of munition steamers and other cargo boats. In all cases merchant crews were removed to safety before the vessels were torpedoed.

STEAMER SUNK

Received this day 1.1.35 a.m. London, May 17. Gibraltar reports that the steamer Clan Macka.y was sunk on May 11 by a- collision.
