The people are alarmed because of the delayed victory and idwindtlteiw food supplies. The comparative plenty enjoyed during the winteir ,is now succeeded by hunger. The meat ration bias already been reduced. Sickness is spreading alarmingly. Twenty-three per oent of the population is suffering from disease. The German food reserves for orviilians are nearly exhausted, andi no relief is in sight. GERMANY IS MAKING FANCY GOODS. "BUSINESS AS USUAL.." Received 8.45 a.m. this day. ■London, May 13. The Daily Chronicle's Amsterdam sorreepondent stitbes the annual fair at Leipzig was a diecided suocees. Many Bulgarian, Swedish, Norwegian 1 and Danish buyers were present. No luxury articles, or leather or rubber goods were exhibited, but there were thousands of substitutes, especially foods. German manufacturers are producing large quantities of cheap fancy goods made from substitute raw materials, tvihlich are cheaper and more plentiful and durable 'than the original raw material's used before the war. It is unjrue that rbhe manufacturers are accumilating vast stocks for foreign martens after the war. The factories are vorl&ng difficulties but wil'l not ,ake long in getting busy after the rar. Meanwhile they are supplying ;oods to Holland, Scandinavia, the Balkans and Turkey.
