Levin Patriotic Society.
The .regular meeting of tho commitJ tee of the Levin Patriotic Society was held at the 'Borough Ooujk.l'l ChambI ers last Friday night; the Chairman, j (Mr O. Blenkhorn) presiding. Tho.e present were: Messrs Blenkhorn, F. O. Smith, W. Hughes, !). S. Mackenzie, tlx; Hon. Sec. C. S'. Kecdlvvell; also Mesdames Goldsantijili and W. H. Plaster. Apologies l'or unavoidable abi-ence were received from Messrs 13. R. Gardener and P. W. Goldsmith. Correspondence was received from the Department of Internal Affairs acknowledging receipt of the quarterly returns of the Society's funds. A popular WanganiVi Comedy Coy. wrote offering to give a performance in Levin in aid of th® Patriotic Funds, but as t'be Company was a big one, 1 and it would necessitate liea-vy motor hire to bring fchem to and, fro the offer had to bo declined. The Secretary of the Rangitkei Patriotic Society wrote enclosing cheque of £4, being a refund of thait amount , expended on behalf of the dependents | of a former Man'xm soldier. The New Zealand Secretary of the National Association of French War Orphans wrd'ae on behalf of France's many little fatherless ones inviting assistance from Levin folk toward their rescue work, and it was felt that despite tlie majny appeals lately such a one should ncO be parsed. It is hoped to arrange a big day at the Red Cross tihlop, shortly, probably on June Bth, when the Koputaroa ladies, have been invitedi to 'bake charge of the day's operations. The '"Red Jersey" appeal also came before the committee for consideration and it was decided on the motion of the Chairman that the sum of £5 should be voted towards the fundi; ft being mentioned also by Mrs Goldsmith that a big day was being arranged for next Saturday at t'be Red Cross shop. The Ca.nterbntry War Relief Society forwarded on an application from a former Levin soldier now residing in their district for assistance. As it was a oase which should bo afforded the utmost possible help the committee decided to ee<sk further particulars, as no details were offeired' in the application. •
Tito Treasurer submitted Mis report for the part quarter's working, showing his receipts from 'all sources to be £578 1.5s 9d, and the disbursements £76 19s lOd; leaving a balance in hand! of £858 5s 9d in all funds. A considerable potion of this. viz,. belong? to the "Red Triangle Appeal" which will shortly be paid over. The full balance tfheet will he published shortly " As two of the three members at present representing Levin i on the Horwvhenua County Patriotic Association were due- to ret-re, the committee decided to re-appoint them for a further twelve months.
After parsing a. number of accounts for payment the meeting adjourned.
