Patrotic Soceity.
At last night's meeting of the Committee of the Levin Patriotic Socio:y, the Mayor, who presided, raised the question of linviting the public to take a more active interest in ithe Society. After seeing the splendsid work done by the recent committee fet up to further the Y.M'.C.A. appeal lie felt t/liat Hie active support of such enthusiasts and others in our midst .would provide, a great stimulus to local efforts. Additional committees could then be set up to undertake different branches of the work. The present committee was on4y a -;m'all one butt they bad don© good work, andl the attendance at all ttlve meetings showed they had the right spirit. The constitution of the County Patriotic Association provided thift, the members of each Patriotic Society in i the didbrict which contributed £25 per year to tlio Association's" Fundis ivas entitledi to have all its members made membei's of the bigger Aesoo.aition, but as the 'Levin Society possessed no ac&uial membership, they could not really avail themselves of this privilege. However, it did not necessarily folloto tJhat Levin residents l could' not become members of the bligger Association, as it was also' provided for in the rules that any person contributing 5s per yeair dirod -ly to the . Association s funds then became an active member , of the Association with the right to attend t'lie annual meeting, the first of I wlikflu was to be held) in Levin on May 29. However to afford 'clie Levin public an opportunity ;'x> show their practical interest; in the locp.l Society it was decided at last night's meeting to call a public meeting at an early date when a report of {bh© Society's activities will be placed-before those present. The question of appointing two re- 1 , presentatives in tliei place of Messrs 1 C. S. Iveedwell and P. W. Goldsmith, who are due "bo retire on Jihe 29th of this month from the management committee of the Horowhenua County Patriotic Association oamc before' the commits tee of the Levin Patriotic Society at | its meeting last night. As both tiho r*>tliring members were eligible ior reelection it was decided unanimously by those present that they should again sot on uho committee for a further 12 months.
