A New Tork telegram announces the death of Captain Knyvett, whoso summary dismsisal from the Defence Forces some years ago caused considerable feeling throughout New Zealand, and led to the holding of protest meetings throughout the country in which Mr J. I S. Dickson, M.P., and other Aucklandj ers took a prominent part. Captain Knyvett at the time was connected with the Auckland Garrison Artillery, and came into collision with MajorGeneral (then Colonel) Eobin. An instance of remarkable pluc'lc and presence of mind on the part of some small Maori children occurred recently at Ohinemutu, Rotorua. Five children, of ages ranging from three to a little under seven years, were playing on the banks of the Utuhina Stream, where they had a swing. A little boy of three was accidentally bumped by a child who was swinging, and knocked into the I water, which is there about sft deep, while the banks are steep. Thp oldest j child, a son of Lieutenant Kcpa Fihau, ! promptly called out, 'Form chain! Form | chain!" His sister Heni, about five i years old, throw herself down on the bank and extended her arms He caught one of heT hands and lowered himself down to the water, while the other two children held on to the other hand. He was just able to grasp the drowning child's hair, and called out, "Pull away! Pull away!" Exerting all their strength the children on the bank managed to drag him and the child he was grasping to safety. i ;
