Farmers' Union.
The thirteenth annual meeting of the Levin branch of the N.Z. Farmers' Union was held in the Foresters' Hall, Levin, on Saturday last. There were present Messrs S. A. Broadbelt (in the chair), J. Kebbell, E. M. Herrick, J. Prouse, W. H. Becher, E. Macdonald (Te Horo), E. Allen (Te Horo) and H. J. Richards (secretary). The minutes of the twelfth annual meeting were adopted. The Secretary read the annual report and balance sheet, which were adopted. Mr Allen brought up the question of sheep stealing, bearing on a recent case at Otaki, when, after discussion, he was asked to frame a remit for the Provincial Confrence on the proposition of Mr Macdonald, seconded by Mr Herrick.
It was decided on the motion of Mr Herrick, seconded by Mr J. Prouse, that £5 be voted to the Kitchener Agricultural Scholarship Fund. The proposal to held a conference of delegates from branches of the Union on this coast with the object of forming one strong central branch for the Hutt and Horowhenua districts was discussed, and it was decided on -the motion of Mr Becher, seconded by Mr Macdonald, that this meeting approves the proposal to send a delegate. Mr Broadbelt was appointed delegate. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
On the motion of Mr Kebbell, seconded by Mr Herrick, Mr Broadbelt was re-elected President for the ensuing year.
Messrs Kebbell and J. Prouse were elected Vice-presidents. The following were elected to the Committee: Messrs E. M. Herrick, W- H. Becher, E. Macdonald, E. Allen, W. Stewart, R. Robinson, A. J. Gimblett, R. V. Brown, J. Davies, W. Gorrie, L. V. Kay. Mr R. D. Wallace was re-elec-
ted auditor. Messrs S. A. Broadbelt and J. Prouse were elected delegates to the Provincial Conference to be held at Masterton on May 2o and 29. Mr Richards was asked to retain the position of Secretary pending the conference of delegates to be held shortly. The Secretary was voted the sum of £5 5s as a honorarium:for the past year's services, the balance (£5 0k) of his usual_ honorarium being at his special request voted to the Horowhenua County Patriotic Fund through the Ihakara Branch. It was agreed on the motion oi ■ Mr Prouse, seconded by Mr Kebbell that a letter of sympathy be sent to Mrs and Miss Stewart, expressing the great regret of the Branch at the loss sustained by the death of their father, the late Mr Peter Stwart, who had h a most valuable member of the Branch since its inception.
