The spirit of revolution is spreading even in the solemn halls of the Presbyterian Chuveh of New Zealand, says the Otago- Daily Times. At the men's meeting on Saturday evening, when the Presbyterian Men's League was launched, several speakers intimated that they thought the laymen should have a larger share of the management of the church's affairs. On c gentleman, in a forcible speech, indignantly declared that there existed in the church a co.t ; eric who wanted no others to interfere with them, and ho, exhorted the laymen to stand up for their rights in the Assembly and not to be awed or browbeaten by any of the clergy around them. This sentiment apparently was shared by others beside the speaker, but the two representatives present of that much-abused class of clergy took the outburst good-naturedly; and even voiced approval of the principle it vindicated. Most people would admit that, whatever are its shortcoming?, the Presbyterian Church is essentially a democratic institution.
