Levin's New Methodist Minister.
The Itev. J. H. Haslam, the iiew minister appointed to the jLevin Jietliodist Ulxurcli, will occupy tlie puipit for tlie lirst time 10-moiTow. Earlier in the week Mr Hasium and Mrs Haslam were entertained by the members of Cubastreet congregation, Palmerston and given a most cordial xarewell. The following report is from a Palmerston paper: A representative gathering in the Cuba-street Methodist Church met to farewell the _ liev. J. H. iiaslain on the completion of his rive years' term. The senior circuit steward, Mr W. H. Hatt, occupied the chair, and in opening, said that in Mr Haslam they had an all-round minister of ,4'reat pulpit possessed of unusual musical ability and .\ 7 ho endeared himself to his llock so that he was warmly esteemed as a personal friend. Mr C. H. \Voodley made a stirring speech on behalf of the local preachers, rho had listened with delight to Mr Haslam's pulpit utterances. As President of the Ministers' Association, the Rev. Macdonald Aspland added his meed of praise while Pa:-(or Grinstead spoke for ilie Xo-License League and the Protestant Political Association; Iters. A. Doull and F. W. Boys -.poke for the T and St haul's Methodist congregations, •>nd Sister .Jean and Mr T. It. TTodder (Cuba-street) • also gave ■liort addresses. Mr A. H. Fisher, junior circuit steward, then handed the Iter. Mr Haslam a 'lieriue, which was followed by a ; ravelling bag, presented by. Mr Lather on behalf of the choir. Mrs F. Mowlem Eanded Mrs Ma sin in a handsome silver vase from tlie Ladies' Guild, of which the latter was secretary.
Mr Haslam, in a fine speech, referred to liis stay at Cuba street ■is flip Lest and happiest years of "'lis life. He paid a tribute to the help £?iven him by ETs and npknmvledged the inspiration of 'lif> Ministers' Association and 'lip help so freelv given by his lay preachers. His speech was Tamilv received, and on resuming his seat, the departing guest received very hearty applause.
