Levin and district will learn with (loop regret that Sergt. J. G. Jamioson, for many years stock agonl. for Abraham and Williams, Ltd., hi (his district, lias been killed 111 action, word having boon received yesterday in Palmerston North. Sergt. Jamieson was the only son of Mrs J. G. Jamieson, of Foxton Line, Palnier.ston Xorth, and before taking up his residence in Levin, was widely known in the Manawatu. It was in Levin, however, that his g.enius for making friends and keeping them bore its full fruit, and it is not too much, lo say that no young man in these parts was better known or more widely respected than "Jack." Enlisting n s early as with the Ninth Reinforcements, lie left with the Rifle Brigade, a.iul had nassed through nearly all the •-< rennous campaigning in France before meeting his end in assisting to stem the great German onslaught. Sergt. Jamieson belonged to a family noted in Palnierston for self-sacrificing work, iiid one of his sisters, Mrs Scriven, of Dobu, Papua, was to have visited Levin next week in "ompany with her husband, Rev. V. TT. Scriveji, who is lecturing bore on missionary work in Papua. GTINNER FRED MACKIE. Mr and Mrs J. Mackie, of Rangiuru, have been advised of the •oath from wounds of tlieir youngest son,. Machine-gunner Fred. Mackie, who was with the forces m Palestine. He enlisted in the Fifth Reinforcements and Had served in the macETne-gun sec;ion ever since as a first-class ■runner. He was a bright young Xow_ Zealander who won golden opinions from all with whom be °nme in contact. _ Two sons of Mr and Mrs Mackie have now made the great sacrifice, and tEe Greatest sympathy is felt for them.
