A social gathering will be. held in the Ihakara Hall on Thursday evening as a wind-up to the successful patriotic fund-raising effort just concluded. During .the evening. a presentation will be made to each of the four candidates in the Baby Queen Carnival, and the final figures in connection with it will be announced. There is every prospect of a pleasant evening and a large attendance is expected.. The many friends of Mr and Mrs F. E. Parker were deeply to hear that ditring the week-end they sustaine.d a'very sad . bereavement in the 'loss of ' their eldest child, Eloyd, a particularly bright boy of six years. Although not of robust physique the little fellow had not been in such a state of he'altE as to cause alarm. He had been confined to the house for some days, but on Saturday appeared to be , well again. Serious symptoms appearhowever, and early on Sunday morning the child passed away. Mr and Mi's Parker have naturally been the recipients of many expressions of sympathy in so sad a break in the family circle,, among them being a mbtion of - condolence passed jit . last night's meeting of the Domain Board, of which Mr Parker is a member.
A pretty wedding took place at the Pox ton Methodist Ohurch on Good Friday, the contracting parties being Mr P. J. Petersen/, of Levin, ,and Miss Gertrude Jones, of Foxton. The bride, 1 who was given away, by Mr 13. Walker, was attired in a Shantung costume, ijpith hat to . match, tmd carried a pretty bridal bou--1 quet. She was attended by Miss Walker as bridesmaid, who wore, a white voile dress and. black hat. Mr W. Qooper was best man. The! ceremony was performed by the Ttev A. Harding. The wedding breakfast was partaken, of at' the residence of Mrs Ruback, Coley street. The bridegroom's present to the; bride was a gold watqh and chain,; and the bridesma.id received a gold brooch. Mr and -Mrs Petersjan* left in the afternoon for a short honeymoon, after which they will take up their residence in Levin. —Foxtori Herald. Mesdames J". Prouse and Gold-' smith were in charge of the Red Cross Shop on Saturday and did fair business considering it was a holiday week.
