Farewell.

Two more Levin boys who go to camp on Monday after their final leave were entertained on Thursday night at a complimentary social held in the Druids Hall. They were Privates T.. Clark, son oi Mr and Mrs W. M. Clark, and Private T. Mudgway, son of Mr and Mrs ..Mudgway. Their popularity was evident m the large and representative gathering of residents who assembled. An enjoyable dance programme had been arranged, the music being played by Miss..Pink iu her usual acceptable style, with extras by Misses White and Byers. Mr W. Brouglitoh acted as M.C. and never allowed the proceedings to flag. Visitors were present from Koputaroa, Ohau, Shannon, anil Manakau dui'ing tlie evening. At the supper interval Mr B. •t. Gardener was called upon to make presentations to the guests if the evening - . He said he was present to act as substitute for Mr J. Mclntyre, who liad met villi a slight accident and could not attend. He recognised that ill - Mclntyre would have been able to have done more justice to ilieir guests who liad passed throigh his hands at school. The speaker, however, had known the

families of both lads for a number of years and they were lielil n the greatest respect by all who 'iiiow them. The parents were to be congratulated upon the acion of their sons in joining tlie forces to take part in the fight for liberty and justice. Parents shoild have no regrets at their boys ;-oing to the war when it was -heir duty to do so. Their two

quests had set a fine example for others to follpw, and he felt sure • hoy would do their duty not only to themselves and" their parnits, but that they would uphold

lie honour of their town and co-

untry. Mr Gardener then pre;"iited ' Private Clark, on behalf f many Levin friends, with a

)oeket camera, and Private Mud- ? way, on behalf of his relations, with a watch, wkicli he called on i'he young soldier's mother to buckle to his wrist.

The singing of "They are jolly food fellows" and hearty rounds >f cheers concluded tlie presenta'ion.

The dance programme was

Hien continued and a very enjoyable time spent. The function was organised by Mr W.. Brought on, and lie was generally thanked for giving so many people an opportunity of meeting tEe departing soldiers and wishing theni good luck and Godspeed.
