Levin's contribution to the distressed residents of the Ilaetihi district has been well started as the result of the concert and dance arranged by Mr J. W. Farland, and held in Farland's lne* atre last night. So deserving a cause found a ready response and tickets sold freely in the two days allotted for getting up the entertainment. There was a crowded house and altogether between £50 and £60 should be available. During the interval the sheep donated by Mr Hone McMillan were auctioned and brought in the sum of £10 15s. A case of apples fetched 10s and a pair of boots given by Mr F. Martin realised the sum of £3 8s 6d. Added to this a number of donations were received from various sources which will be publicly acknowledged in due. course. The first part of the program consisted of musical And monologue items from Levin antl Otaki artists. Miss Bray and Messrs Mottershead and Currie each contributed two solos, the latter also giving a recitation. Mr Jacob Utiku was encored for his comic songs, and Mr H. Jones received a similar compliment for his humorous contribution. The little Misses Lemmon contributed two of their dainty dances, and the Misses Cook, of Otaki, gave a spirited instrumental overture. Undoubtedly the surprise of the evening -was the singing of tiny Miss Tawhiwi, who for her age possesses a remarkable contralto voice, and the audience gave her what was in the nature of an ovation. The other contributor to the evening's entertainment was Mr Hector McDonald, - who besides reciting, gave some interesting reminiscences, of active sepvie. The second half of the programme was devoted to pictures generously provided by Farland's management who are deserving of praise for the splendid financial result realised in only two days.
