Red Triangle Day.

NEARLY £101)0* FOR LEVIN'S EFFORT. Tluit just 011 £1000 has been subscribed as tlie share of Levin and the district for the Red Triangle fund for providing comforts for the boys in the trenches is a striking demonstration of the generosity of the community and a tribute to the energy of the committee which undertook the task. Only a fortnight was given in which to raise the money, but the canvassers under the enthusiastic leadership of Mr 11. E. Porter scoured the whole town and district and jalso in setting I'ox ton and Shannon to. work. Saturday provided a fitting close to the campaign, The Red Cross Shop was commandeered by the ladies committee and the town was assaulted by a small army specially - uniformed for the occasion _ and mounted on well-filled munition ; waggons. Oxford street resoun - ' ded to the battle cries from early morning till late at night and the * combined efforts of the shop and , street skirmishers resulted in £96 s 10s being added to the fund. Mrs , Porter had charge of the Shop and wns assisted by Mrs Wliitaker (whose sweet stall brought in „ the handsome total of £12 2s lid) and Mrs Cork, Mrs Ford-Hutch-inson, Mrs Tickers, Misses Nicholas and Whitaker. Messrs H. E. Porter, J. V. Lawson, J. Ryder and Q.M.S. Fletcher also assisted. The competitions, etc., £ were in charge of Misses Wilson, ; Cork, Davies and Palmer, while ■ the little Misses Bulliman, Pink, and Jones sold buttonholes. Bags j were made by Mrs Pyke, Mrs I, Sell, Mrs Mackenzie, Misses Ad- • kin (2), Hall, McGonagle and Pink. The men. who master- \ fully managed the munition wag- ' eon' were Messrs Matheson, Por- J 1 teous, L. Scott, Aitken, W. L. . Williams, H. Jones, Mottershead < and T. G. Yincent. Misses Pink !; and White assisted at the piano \ and "Charlie Chaplin" (Master McLaughlin) did his share in r pushing sales. _ .it A welcome . addition to the funds was provided by Mrs FordHutchinson, who has handed over * £10, the result of the sale of bead J chains made by her.
