"Who's that chapt" he asked of a fellow-haymaker. '' Oh, that's the boss, he's off to the races!" was the astounding reply. "Well, if that's the •way he's winning the war,' he can t have me," said -the newcomer, and he walked off the job shortly after and forgot to come back. Referring to Easter leave being granted in tho Reinforcement Camps, Sir James Allan, speaking at Auck- j land, said he regretted it could not be given generally owing to transport and other reasons. Most of the men in camp had been givon a considerable amount of leave already. The 36th. and 37th drafts had had their final'leave daring the Christmas period, and, in addition to the usual extended leave, many of the men received extra leave of up to a fortnight. The authorities were arranging for the men of the 38th draft to get their final leave during the Easter period, but the 39th draft only mobilised between 4th and 9th March, and it could hardly be expected that these men should be given extra leave so soon. Tho 36th, 37th, and 39th drafts had been granted local leave to cover the four days of Easter.
