Scene At Otaki Town Board.

"POLICE PIMPS." CHAIRMAN OF BOARD RESIGNS. The serenity of Thursday night's meeting of the Otaki Town Board was perturbed by the chairman (Commissioner. W. I l '. Edwards) asking for the names of members who had carried tales to Constable Satlierley relative to remarks alleged to have been made at a previous meeting. In' outspoken language, Mr Edwards characterised this action of these members as a breach of etiquette, and he said members carrying such tales were nothing but "police pimps." The chairman said he did. not remember making the remark "that he had no time to go fishing, as he had to watch Satherley," but if he did he had said it in a jocular way. He had been told by the constable the name of one commissioner mentioning the matter, but two others were involved and he wished their names also. He added that if the members of the Board were pimps he would no longer sit as Chairman of the Board.

Two commissioners stated they had heard the remark made, while one admitted that on being quesr tioned by the constable he said he heard the remark made.

Some very unpleasant things were said by the parties interested while others objected to be classed as "police pimps." After a wordy warfare, the chairman drew from his pocket a slip of paper bearing Tiis resignation as chairman, and placing it on the table, left the room, stating he would also resign as commissioner. Mr Byron Brown was then elected chairman of the Board. — Mail.
