Council was held k is ' Monday evening. i'resent: Tlie Mayor' (111 the chair), and Crs McJienzie, lLyder, Ail ken, Matiieson, .L'urker, iiull, Uroome and Dr 13 ry soil. TJic Makara County Council , wrote suggesting that a national deputation representing tlie local - bodies of tlie Dominion wait upon tlie Government in regard to the taxation of motor ears, The opinion was expressed that in tlie past parochial efforts hail with poor response, and further : that tlie nature of the taxation, whether according* to 'weight o± vehicle', horse power, or customs tax on tvres, was a matter ior i' trlianient, .and that the revenue produced from the proposed motor taxation should be distributed pro rata-among the local bodies to be expended on the surface maintenance of main roads. —On the Mayor's motion the Council's support was accorded the movement.
