"\V. Procter to make a presentation.
ilr Procter referred to the good work done by the Levin boys at. the front, and he especially mentioned the Hannan family, three sons already being in the field of action and another about to join his brothers. Mr Procter then presented Mr Hannan. _ with a wristlet watch on behalf of his local friends," expressing the hope that it would be useful to him at all times, but especially on night duty, keeping him in close touch and remembrance with his many friends in Levin.
Amidst cordial applause. the watch was buckled on the recipient's wrist by Miss Hannan, and at Mr Procter's call three hearty cheers were entlmsiastically given tor the departing soldier.
Mr llannan made a suitable response, in which he thanked his friends for their kind presentation and good wishes. He said he was proud to" feel that he was going forward to do his duty agains \ tlie brutal Huns, and he hoped tliat when lie came back he would have the pleasure of meeting the same old friends again.
Amongst tiiose present by invitation were a number of re (Aimed soldiers and they suppurted Jir iiannan during tlie presentation. 11l- iiroughtou briefly voiced tlie pleasure of tlie company at seeing so many returned men present with the knowledge that they had done their duty, and at his suggestion three ringing cheers were given for them. , f ' ' Supper was then handed round and full justice was done to a very ample provision by all present.
During the evening Mr and Mrs Iloyal, from liotorua, delighted the company by singing a duet which was warmly encoded.
Miss Pink's playing waVgreatly appreciated, and extras by Messrs Hook and Co.'s -orchestra,., from Shannon, pleased the daiicers. In the small hours of the morning dancing was brought to a close, everyone being well pleased at the excellent arrangruents and tlie opportunity of saying goodbye to a popular local- boy.
