£1,800 Potato Fine

Henry Thompson, farmer and potatogrower, Dawsmere, Holbeach, Lincolnshire, was at Spalding fined £1,800, with costs, for selling potatoes above the maximum price. It was stated that on the sales of 500 tons of potatoes Thompson had made an illegal profit of £2,143, but the defence said the excess profit he received was £1,350. Thompson is the son of Geo. Thompson, potato-grower, of Lutton Marsh, Long Sutton, who in September last was fined £5,500 on 55 summonses by tho same court fer potato profiteering.
