ROLL OF HONOUR.

Much sympathy will be felt for Mr and Mrs Arthur Muff, of Fairfield, and Mrs J. W. Perkins, of Levin, in the sad bereavement t'hey l have just sustained by the death of their son and brother, E-iflemn Norman Douglas Muff, who was killed "'ll action on January 4. The youaig soldier, though only 24 years of", age, had a long record of service, going away with the Second Battalion of the Itifle Brigade in 3915, and being engaged in the desert fighting against the Senussi before going to France. He was several times wounded, once at the Somme where he took pari in the New Zealanders' gallant cap•ture of Flers, tand incidentally saw the triumphant entry of the famous tanks into the oapfc ir'sd town writing a vivid account of the spectacle for hisi relatives. He was in England recovering from wounds when the New Zealanders went into action at Hessines, but letters recently received indicated that he was shortly going back to JTrance. With that strange sense of fatality that besets some of our soldiers, he expressed has belief that he was going to his death, and added brave words of comfort for those who : would be left to sorrow for him. The late Rifleman Muff, who was farming in the Orari district, Canterbury, before he went awav, was a young man of sterling character and a favourite with all bis acquaintances, who will hear with the deepest regret of his passing away.
