The Feilding Star says: We are informed, by the wiay, that the people of Auckland are "seething" over developments at Motuihi, and well they might if only half the things that are being freely discussed by the man in the street id the Queen City be true. The primary cause of anger on tlie part of the citizens is a detailed report of an episode that has happened since the Von Luckner scandal. It appears that amongst the interned Germans on Motuihi is a big blonde who at one time lorded it over all and sundry in Auckland's business circles. There is a line of demarkation on the is- [ land beyond which it is forbidden i the prisoners to step. One day, so the record goes, whilst a returned soldier wa.s on sentry-go, tlie big blonde blusterer marched along with his head in the air, and was crossing the line when the sentry cialled upon him to halt. "You know very well that you are not supposed to cross that line," observed the man with the bayonet. Tlie German's Iretort discourteous was—to spit in the returned man's face! Is it to be wondered at that tlie New Zealander drove his bayonet through the fleshiest part of a Hun's anatomy when he is in retreat? That enemy of the State is now in hospital. For daring to retort in such a manner against the insult the soldier was court-martialled, sentenced to a term of imprisonment, and deprived of his pension and privileges as a returned soldier. The Auclclanders are raising funds to present the soldier with a gold wiatch and '(medal when he comes out of gaol.
