Soldier's Letter.
IN SOME HOT CORNERS.
Sniper Chas. Wildsmith,, son of Mr and Mrs C. Wildsmith, Tc Horo, writing to his parents, says at the time of writing he was well (he has since been wonnded), but had had a lot of luck. Speaking of one stunt, he the company he was with hopped out just after daybreak, following up a barrage up a ridge, through, shell-holes and mud, to a very warm quarter. Some of the men were bogged en route, but as the writer had previously traversed this locality, he knew the ground and managed to avoid the worst troubles. The corporal who accompanied Sniper Wildsmith was wounded. The latter dressed the wound, and started off again, only to miss a bullet, which was stopped by a soldier just in front of him, probaibly saving his life. Another comrade nearby was shot in the chest, when only a foot or two away from Wildsmith, who bandaged the wounded man and got a stretcher-beaTer. By this time the boys were hotly contesting the ground with the Germans, and eventually won their objective. In the melee which ensued the writer secured a coveted iron cross and some photographs, which he intend, ed forwarding home as souvenirs. It will be remembered that Sniper Wildsmith was recently awarded the Military Medal as a reward for bravery on th,e field. THROAT HABITS A cough, a hack in clearing the throat may become habits.
