LATEST WELLINGTON QUOTATION'S Wellington, Dec. 7. Hie New Zealand Farmers' Distributing Co, Ltd., report:—New potatoes are now coming forward in fair quantities. The quality of same is good and prices being obtained are satisfactory \m growers. Fowl wheat v* very scarce and, this is likely to be tho position until tho new crop available. Oil account of tho new restrictions with regard to importation, outi-fde supplies are not likely to be so large. Maize is in good demand w(th supplies somewhat shori':-; and it is hardly likely that i-pace will be available to allow for importation. Oats are in fair supply and values remain unchanged. Grass seed is in fair demand—more especially ill 1 heavy linos. There is nothing ifivrtlicr to report with regard -to the position of bran and pollard except that supplies are not nearly equal ;o the demand. Good feed barley is scarce and. any lines offering are realising most satisfactory figures. The supply of pork has considerably fallen off during the week and on account of the ■approach of Christinas demand is exceedingly good. Poultry lias been coming forward in larger quantities but t-lie Christmas demand will soon absorb aJI available supplies.
Vegetables.—Vegetohlcs are now coming forward in much largre quantifies and the scarcity which has been prevalent for some time in the markets is now relieved. Cabbage is plentiful and prices have declined. Cauliflower is coming forward in fair quantities and is of better quality. Good, carrots are not so plentiful and higher figures are the rule. Onions are a rather unsatisfactory line to handle at this time of the year and only small parcels are changing hands. Lettuce is very plentiful and prices are lower. French beans are now coming to hand from Sydney and in consequence pivces have dropped. Beet root is still scarce and high prices are the rule. This also applies to the quality of which so far has been only fair. Marrows are now to be obtained with good figures ruling. Pumpkins are more plentiful with a consequent decline in price. The supply of green peas is moMi satisfactory and good values are being maintained. Rhubarb not quite so plentiful.
Fruit.—Apples are very scarce and, 3iigh prices are ruling. Cherries aire in fair supply but good figures are being maintained. Peachci- -and apricots arc now appearing and prices are high. 'Gooseberries amli cherry plums ar© now being offered in fair quantities, but prices so far have been well maintained.
