if'he monthly metCing of the County Patriotic Asociation was held in the County office, Levin, yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs- C. Blenkhorn, (in tho chair), P. W. Goldsmith, C. S. Kcedwell (Levin) R. G. McLean, W. J. Howell (Paraparauinu), E. Penn, L. St. George, 11. S. Young (Ofcaki), G. Cat ply (Te Horo), Rev Palmer and -Mrs E. T. Gibson (Shannon), J,- S, Smith and A. Ma okay (Pnokatairiki), D. 11. Bathgate (Manakan), and E. P. Walkley (secretary.)
Mr Young secretary of the Levin Woriug Glen's Club wrote forwarding £1 Is as a donation to the funds, for which a letter of thank's was sent.
A letter was received firom the Pub--1 it* Tj"u. c l-ce inquiring if the Association had any funds to invent. Information concerning the proposed Trentham sehola-mhips was received, also copies of "Hb-'toric Trentham," tho proceeds from the sale of which ai'o t:> go to the scholarship. A Ici'itcr was received from a returned soldier in Wanganui, formerly resident in Waii'kanae, asking for a loan of £■300 to a*sist in erecting and furnishing a home. Mr Penn moved that the matter be referred to the War Relief Association of Wellington. Mr Bathgate seconded the motion. Mr Howell strongly supported the principle of lending money oo soldiers rather than placing it on fixed deposit with the banks even though the interest were not so large. Ho suggested a scheme on lines similar to- the Government advances to workers, whereby interest a.nd repayment of principal wouldl be combined. ! M;r Pcnn's motion was carried. A communication was received; from tho Discharged Soldiers' Department asking that agencies for tlie Department be formed throughout the County for the purpose of assisting the work of the Department.-—lit was decided on the motion of Mr Howell, that tlie members preseni'; form themselves into committees for the districts they represent. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Andrew, Eraser and Austin. Mr Howard Andrew, in a letter, ' bi'ough'b under the notice- of the Association. the intercession day arrang-e-di by the King for January Gth and asked; members to asist in bringing the day before the notice of tlio public.
