Australians' Escape.

PERILS OF THE FRONTIER.

Three Australians have arrived in London within a month of having been captured by the Germans. They escaped from Termonde, east of Ghent, when their captors were taking them to Germany. They encountered bitterly cold weather. They travelled at night time amidst a maze of canals and ditches, frequently wading waist-deep in water. They roached the frontier in three days. Thc leader was almost electrocuted by a wire fence. They hid in a bnrn for seven days, eating turnips, and watching thc habits of the frontier guards, wh o were stationed at 100 yds intervals. On the seventh night they passed the guards and carried out a daring plan to surmount thc fence in the moonlight, lying flat as thc sentries passed within 10yds of them. The guards' password was "Australia," and this suggested that they had been warned. While at Termonde a bogus New Zealand officer attempted to fraternise with them, and questioned them regarding thc route of transports. They did not respond. A' bogus Tommy had induced them to reveal an earlier plan of escape. He spoke perfect English.
