The Territorials.
SOME WORDS OF ADVICE.
The modified scheme of Territorial training has recently been decided upon and arranged so as to apply in a much greater measure to the country areas, than to the town areas. This is duo to the fact that the primary object of the revised syllabus of training is intended to obviate, as much as possible, the necessity for interfering with essential industries, such as wool growing, farming, agricultural farming, cattle grazing, dairying, etc. Co-oper-ation is desired between the Defence Department and employers. In the past, almost invariably, employers and others have forwarded thoir complaints either direct to the Minister of Defence or to a member of Parliament, which instead of ensuring immediate attention, has had the opposite effect, becauso the complaint has to go from the member to the Minister, thence to the Commandant, and from him to the District Staff concerned, whereas by communication direct with the nearest Defenco Office, or District Headquarters Staff, the matter can be much more expeditiously settled by the proper military authority, who in most cases, first becomes aware of the complaint when it is brought up in the House, or before the Minister. If employers, associations, etc., will communicate direct with the District Headquarters, Palmerston North, on all matters with which they arc experiencing any difficulties or want of sympathetic co-operation, or with reference to any complaint, they will thereby ensure the immediate investigation into, and, wheTC necessary, the removal of the cause of such difficulty or complaint.
